Hot off the presses from Caitlin Koval, our Newsletter Editor!
Caitlin was hired by GROW-HUB to assist staff as a community liaison and to write the articles for GROW-HUB’s Blooming News, which is now in its second year and published periodically to showcase GROW-HUB’s progress and events.
Caitlin is a 2010 graduate of Buchholz High School, Gainesville, Florida. She has said that she considers this a major accomplishment because there are many students who have developmental disabilities who do not graduate from high school. She attended Santa Fe College and graduated in 2015 with an Associate of Arts Degree with a focus on Family, Youth and Community Sciences.
In addition to her employment at GROW-HUB, she has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida and UF/Shands Hospital. She is a strong advocate for disability rights who is not hesitant to speak out. She enjoys the help of a service dog, a Labrador named Hepburn.
Caitlin has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and uses a motorized wheelchair that increases her freedom and independence. Caitlin visits GROW-HUB to do interviews for her articles and attend events. She readily uses her laptop, internet, email, Facebook, dictation software, and other aids to do her interviews and write her articles. Caitlin says, “I am not going to allow my disability to stop me from accomplishing my goals and dreams.”
GROW-HUB is proud to have Caitlin on the crew of “Hubbers”.
